This may be a little bit deep for this early in the morning, but I wanted to share this interview with Egyptian author Alaa Al Aswany that appeared in this month's National Geographic.

I don't think it's a question of civilizations. Civilizations are the best part of human creation. They don't cause any kind of clashthey are a means to communicate. The clash comes from the aggressive interpretation of some religions. Religions have been used throughout history as a cause to wage war and kill people, but it's my opinion that religions are the same everywhere. They are a way to find God, a way to have positive values, to prove oneself as a good human being.

CREATIVE CLASSROOMS

Set up four years ago, the school is up to class VI but will extend to class XII next year and will follow both the ICSE Board and the International Baccalaureate system.
The classrooms are colourful, their walls decorated with paintings done by students. The objective is to create fun and rewarding learning experiences that would last the children the rest of their learning lives, points out Vael Principal R. Meenakshi. The classrooms do not have more than 20 students each and the stress is more on practical stuff, less on theory. So, the children learn what a cold sensation is in a rather pleasurable way: by visiting an ice cream parlour. A lesson in personal hygiene is given in a beauty parlour and another on fitness in a gym. There are special days like the creepy crawly day, when children learn about insects and a noodle doodle day when they help teachers to make noodles and colour them.

Essentially, your presence is about establishing visibility in the online world and making connections that could prove valuable later.

For that to work, you need to put some effort into it.

In your online profile, for instance, if "you have just two sentences there, it shows you don't take this seriously," Pollak says. "You're not going to get the most benefit if don't make the most of your profile."

So consider adding links and mention previous employers, special skills, buzzwords for your industry, even your "30-second elevator pitch" - especially if one motivation is the desire to hear from job recruiters. Pollak says her fiance's profile on LinkedIn was so compelling that even though he wasn't looking for a new job, an employer sought him out and offered him one.
